Welcome!

Perhaps your love of science brought you here.  Or was it a Lenovo product?  Cute scientists?  A combination of the three? However you arrived, I hope you enjoy stories of scientists, from academia to industry, discussing their work and the Lenovo products they use for getting their work done (okay, and helping with some play).

I am sure by now you have heard about Lenovo and Superfish.  I took some time to evaluate how I wanted to respond to the situation.  As an advocate for Lenovo who has praised the build and security of their machines, it was both embarrassing and disappointing (and, yes, I received many messages about the incident...even my sister had to text me about it).  Though I will remain a Lenovo proponent, I do so because I believe Lenovo made a stupid decision that they are now addressing with humility and transparency.  They have also provided the necessary tools to remove the software from affected laptops.  Here is their official Facebook statement:
Some of you may have heard news this week about Lenovo and "Superfish" - a piece of software that came pre-loaded on some laptops for a brief period in 2014. The long and short of it is, we made a poor decision, and we're going to do everything we can to fix it and rebuild consumer confidence that it will never happen again.
Here's our official statement:

Lenovo CTO Peter Hortensius has provided the following open letter in which he explains how Lenovo is working to fix the problem and to restore our faith in Lenovo.

It is always a disappointing feeling when a company's image is tarnished (think of Dell and their exploding batteries, working conditions in Apple's Chinese factories, IBM's role in the Holocaust).  At times, this had led me to refuse to buy a company's products (this will undoubtedly be the case with some Lenovo users).  We can only hope that Lenovo will move forward and keep their word that this will never happen again.

    About Gregory Costa

Gregory Costa is a decent biologist, mediocre writer, terrible formatter, but true Lenovo enthusiast, who admires the use of their products in both the academic and industrial setting...when he's not busy delighting himself in science, nature, or his OkCupid profile.
